Active
- FRACS or equivalent
- Registered Specialist Surgeon in Australia
- Has undergone training in hand surgery
- At least 2 years post-Fellowship surgical experience, including hand surgery
- Summary of hand surgery experience (eg. PFET or 12mth log book – hand surgery cases only)
- Presentation at a Scientific meeting as a Provisional Member or first year as an Active Member
- The applicant sends their CV and PFET/Fellowship documents or logbook with a photo (head & shoulders) to the proposer to review and forward with the proposer’s and seconder’s letters to the AHSS
- Proposer and Seconder Letters, both of whom must be Active Members of the AHSS
Provisional
- FRACS or equivalent
- Registered and a Specialist Surgeon in Australia (Plastic Surgeon, Orthopaedic Surgeon, or General Surgeon)
- Trained during Fellowship or intending to train post-Fellowship in the field of hand surgery
- Proposer and Seconder Letters, both of whom must be members of the AHSS
- Provisional Membership to expire naturally after 2 years or with one year extensions under exceptional circumstances where further training in hand surgery could be undertaken
- Application for Active membership be made during the 2 year period of Provisional Membership
Corresponding
- FRACS or equivalent
- Has undergone training in hand surgery
- At least 2 years post-Fellowship surgical experience, including hand surgery

All documents to be received at least two months before Annual General Meeting which usually occurs in March of each year in order to comply with the requirements of the Constitution and enable applications be received by the Board for due consideration. Applications not received within this time frame will be deferred to the following year.
All Applications should include a digital image that, in uploading, you authorise for use in AHSS communications including but not limited to: welcoming new members, membership contact lists, articles in AHSS newsletters, AHSS social media and the AHSS website.
