Description of Programme:

  • One major consultant
    Monthly meeting with six other consultants for complex cases and learning. Opportunity to work with several other consultants if time allows in their private practice (same hospital).
  • Orthopaedic surgeons
  • Private practice:
    Case-mix: trauma and elective, hand and wrist
  • Fellow’s timetable:
    Three lists/week 1:30pm – 6:30/10:30pm. Morning consulting three days a week. Full day consulting two days a week.
  • Focus:
    • Arthroscopy
    • Arthroscopic ligament repair and bone grafting
    • All aspects hand surgery
    • Distal radius fracture
    • Nerve compression
    • High volume, data collection and outcome assessment
    • Co-located with hand therapy, great learning opportunity
  • Teaching:
    • Monthly hand therapy teaching
    • Monthly complex case meeting
    • Weekly Fellows meeting with complex case and literature review

Research Areas:

  • Arthroscopic bone grafting
  • Dupuytren’s outcomes and recurrence rates
  • New technique development – e.g., DRUJ dry arthroscopy, supraretinacular carpal tunnel release, SKIA DRUJ fusion
